The postwar Lionel #6110 "Scout" locomotive had an unusual arrangement for its smoke unit. Instead of using a piston to pump out puffs of smoke, there was a hole in the front of the engine. The idea was for the forward motion of the loco to push air into the hole, and smoke out of the stack.

The smoke unit was unique. Even the Smoke unit cover has it's own part number, #6110-4.

Does anybody know what the difference between a  #6110-4 smoke unit cover and the standard 671-160 cover?

Does anybody know what the resistance of the 6110-8 heater assembly should be?
