or those who might know...is this business still operating. I believe it was operated by a gentleman named Tom in the Kansas City area. I notice the website doesn't seem to have been updated lately.
Please advise and thanks in advance.

Too bad y'all never wrote down the name and address of the man I purchased my custom decals from He was johnny on the spot and did gold and all colors. Also did artwork from photographs.
No, I no longer have his addy as I just lost it in a computer crash.

Why pay extra for custom decals when the ones you wanted were supposedly already available in O for cheap? We never knew that Tom was out of stock and did not have a printer… We will see how this turns out in the end...
I just wish someone would give a good clinic or article or something on how to make our own using existing photos and stencil diagrams…step by step process with a full list of what software to use.
Oddballs Decals used an Apls printer. I found this on the Alps website:
As previously posted on March 31, 2007 Alps Electric North America, Inc. no longer offers any support for the MD Series Printers models MD-2010/ 4000/ 2300/ 1000/ 1300/ 5000 respectively.
The end of support also includes the Retail Version of product(s) such as keyboards, glidepoint keyboards, laser printers, serial & ps2 mouse, external desktop and portable glidepoints.
You may purchase supplies for as long as their inventory last from:
Micro Parts and Supplies (www.mpsupplies.com or 800-336-2131)"

I was one of them that tried to help in good faith with a prepaid order last autumn. I'm still waiting for my $500 order to be filled.

t610:
Actually, it wasn't a loan, merely a prepaid order to help him.
Ken:
I understand. I too, would rather receive the decals instead of a refund. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever see either.

Hello you might check with Model car , 1/24th scale guys , they make decals and I used a guy in upstate NY called special appearance decals , he is a very knowledgeable guy . What I did when Oddball would not refund , I had him send me the files for the decals I purchased. Better than nothing , and with the file it saves you $$$ on the art work creation time. I just then had a decal maker produce them.
With $500 deposits , that's pretty hefty orders at his 50% off promotion. If you manage to get the files , I could help you from there. For whoever is interested , email me and I can put you in touch with John from special appearance . The good thing about him is , he was a printer , and knows Alps print techniques inside and out.
Here are decals I made from scratch , I do not sell my decals for the HY-CUBES. You will discover that railroad fonts are sometimes homegrown . I have close friend who is a pro in the graphic arts and we have looked at 1000's of fonts , some have to be hand drawn . Anyway just one man's opinion.
Bernie
Bernie, wow, those Hy-cubes are just too cool- I especially like the Wabash and SP!! You really do some nice work there- to see about 15 of those in a train with some scale auto racks would blow the top off of any modeler's train- so awesome!
Thanks jeff , I build auto racks too , all I have access to are I-phone pix at the moment , here are some. Sorry for the crazy shots , tried to rotate and save ,but they would not stay put.
Bernie
anyone ever get a refund from Tom at oddballs?
not to my knowledge. File a complaint with you sate attorney general qnd the USPS for mail fraud.
