Maybe hire 2 - 4 seamstresses at the York event to embroider hats and jackets.  If there is a stock of jackets and hats, it would be surprising what could happen.  Probably 75 - 80% of York attendees regardless of what brand of train, what scale size have all probably read OGR and most of the major train magazines.  It's a shot in the dark but you only will miss 100% of the shots that you don't take.

Baseball cap is certainly the most practical as it could be worn year-round unlike sweat shirts or hoodies, easily seen in a crowd since worn up high and not worn under and covered up by a jacket or coat as a shirt or t-shirt might be, AND likely the most affordable with the widest appeal to all.

We'll take a look at doing baseball hats with the OGR forum logo on them.

Allan, to be fair, the only member referencing another forum in this thread is Hot Water (i.e., a single OGR forum member, not "folks"); and, I replied to his mischaracterization of that thread above.  Please don't perpetuate his mistake.

I'd be in for a long sleeve shirt, provided it had a pocket.  Prefer a button down collar.  Maybe a jacket if it were a windbreaker type, light weight and would prefer that with a zipper for closing.  Some of the clothes that the staff wears at York might be worth while to make available to all of us.

As to color/design:  Does OGR have any standard colors?  I suppose that the mast-head colors of Red and White come close to being a standard, but I'm not sure that those would be a good choice for wearing apparel.  As to the hat or cap, not too interested as I very rarely wear one.  Same for Tee shirts, never wear 'em.

Yep, the old "you can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." Learned that long ago and it applies these days more than ever before.

Probably the best thing would be to allow an embroidery place to digitize the logo(s) and a customer can pick and choose what they want it on.

I did a design for a company a few years that did that and it worked out pretty well for them as they didn't have to stock stuff or deal with people wanting things to be exactly what they wanted or not at all...

That hopefully should please everyone except perchance those who detest ironing or don't own one!
Hats MAYBE the best option for people who WEAR HATS. Many people do NOT!

People, with all these suggestions and/or demands, give the folks at OGR a break and some slack. We're not talking about a large conglomerate or publishing company with many different magazines but rather a niche publication serving a relatively small niche market with commensurate finances and resources that does the very best to serve the interest and needs of o gauge enthusiasts. You can't realistically expect them to do what many here are suggesting.

I think to cover everybody, whether they wear hats, jackets or pullovers, a nicely embroidered patch would be perfect.  It would be affordable for everybody, could be put on what ever the buyer wanted.  I have a nice black carhart jacket that would look good with a forum patch on the front.  Keeps it affordable for all and does not exclude anybody IMHO.  It might also be more easily handled on the forum owners end, could be shipped in an envelope for a single patch. Just my 2 cents, and I do wear hats, jackets but not pullovers  Mike

Why not outsource OGR apparel items to someplace like cafepress.com?

Just provide them with logos/artwork and they make/stock/ship hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, etc.  They also do items like coffee mugs.

I don't know how the finances work, but at least it would get OGR out of the business of having to forecast, order and stock various types and sizes of apparel.
