Have you tried the SEARCH function, available on the OGR Forum? There are almost monthly lubrication/oil/grease threads.
Ok so I see a lot of guys are using red and tacky can I use this on the gears on the wheels or is this just for the gears in motor

I use it on everything I own, including the center bearing on the turntable. The only place I don't use Red n Tacky, is on the side rod bearings on steam locomotives, as I don't care for the visible "red" stuff all over the running gear. For steam locomotive side rods, I use Excel Lubricants heavy synthetic grease, which is clear.
Jeff,
R&T is great stuff, a little goes a long way and lasts a long time. Use it just about any place you like, it's safe for about everything.

It actually works well in the old motors where it says "lubricant" but everyone tends to use oil - the motor shaft of horizontal motors.
I use it on all the gears in postwar, MPC and modern Lionel. A little goes a long way. For the older Lionel, the red n tacky, actually helps reduce the "grinding" noise found in the AC pullmor motors.
