I mostly model the SP circa the early 1950's.  My layout service yard area is under construction.  I have a "full service area."  It has water tanks as well as a water column.  It also has a coaling tower. Hot Water will ask why, since I am modeling SP.  The answer is I have an SP Berkshire that is a coal burner along with some other livery locomotives that are coal burners.  I was looking for a prototypical oil column.  There was an interesting article in the SP H & TS magazine which is called, "Trainline."  The article was about the "standard" oil column used by the SP.  It was a "Rose" oil column.  Here are some pics and a "blueprint" of that oil column.  In my research, I could not find a "Rose" oil column in O scale.  I ended up buying the Precision brass oil column. I haven't painted it yet.  I also could not find that many pics of oil colums...particularly the "Rose" oil column.  Here's the stuff I found.  Anyone know if they make a "Rose" oil column in O scale?  Matt

Matt,

I have never seen an O Scale model of that "Rose" oil column, as used by the Southern Pacific, and possibly other railroads. Your bottom photo of the Max Gray, Kemtron, or Precision Scale, brass oil column is the type I have in my engine terminal (it was the only oil column I could find after more than a year of searching eBay, and it was VERY expensive).

You may have to scratch build your own "Rose" type, out of brass.
