Hey Hot, I was wondering if there were ever any type of modern firing controls used on an Oil Fired Steam Locomotive, say Like an O2 Analyzer, flame empengment ultra violet/infrared firing eye's.

I know that we didn't get them at the refinery where I worked until the middle eighties. I do realize there is no comparison, to water/product Tube firing, to Fire tube firing, as on Steam Locomotives.

Some of the guys I loaf with, we had a conversation concerning oil fired locomotives. I told them I sure as He** didn't know, but I knew a guy on the forum, that could answer that question, and we could move on to discuss/argue about something else, and I thought the Republicans/Democrates subject might work!..........................................................Brandy!

No, all the Fireman needed to do was watch the stack for smoke as well as the color of the fire through the "peep hole" in the fire door.

Correct, i.e. NO COMPARISON in firing a steam locomotive, coal or oil, to firing stationary boilers with constant loads.
