I was given some Lionel catalogs from a wife of a good friend who passed away. The collection goes from the late 40's through the early 60's, most of the 80' and part of the 90's. I would say they are pretty evenly split condition wise, with a third in great shape, third in ok shape, and a third in not so great shape.
Question is, are they worth anything?

Probably anywhere from$10-100 a pop. Depends on which ones and condition and who's willing to pay what.

I would check using EBay (where I have bought catalogs).
I have sold some catalogs that have dealer stamps for higher prices to buyers who wanted something from their childhood store.
At local shows I my experience has been (for originals):
1930s - 15.00 - 100.00 (Condition is everything)
1940s - 10.00 - 50.00
1950s - 10.00 - 40.00
1960s - 1.00 - 10.00
1970s - 1.00 - 5.00
1980s > Present - 0.00 - 1.00

1940, 1941, 1942, 1948, & 1950 worth about $40. each if they are in excellent condition. After 1960 not worth much.
I have 1946-58, in good condition that I got at the Phila. Atlantic Div TCA meet (Plummer's Hall) for about $10. each. I bought them 10 years ago. Greenberg had a book reproducing postwar catalogs, but good luck finding one at any price.
