Today I bought 5 more old Model Railroader magazines and have been looking through them. 3 are from the WW II era and 2 are from 46. A really fun read and good photos with some really great articles when there wasn't near the neat stuff on the market like today. Some of the layouts really look good and some of the how-to articles are great. No poliics either. Well worth the minimal cost.

Hi Jim,
I like the old ones too. Amazing how some guys would build their own locomotives out of brass, too.

These old timers did some amazing things and some are relevant today. A lot of HO but still good for O or S or even Standard. The ones from WW II are amazing because I remember those days as a kid.
I remember a scenery article from way back using asbestos furnace cement and screening to make mountains.
Encapsulated asbestos is not a danger. One article showed a guy using window screen, wet pieces of newsprint and FLOUR paste for hard shell. The bugs would love that. The mold would look good, though.

Asbestos was our friend back then.
Asbestos also used to be used for boiler lagging on steam locomotives.

Run across an article on the Bellefonte Central? I remember there was one, but nothing else, except reminded in the 2018 Lionel catalog. Have not heard of it for years...short story on the B.C.?
