Hi guys want to share with you this old piece of history with you. On an old steam engine that I bought. This 4-6-2 is 8ft long and 14 inches wide. It is made out of wood, cardboard and plastic. The gentleman that built it worked for the Reading railroad. He built this in 1960 and was then used as a store display from 1969 up to 1982. At lesures department store. The family of the man that built it then had sold it at a yard sale to a friend of mine in 2010. The family had given him the history of the engine. Well he had it in his barn up till last week when he called me. He was cleaning out his barn a had decided to sell the engine. He knew I would give it a good home.

Now I am in the middle of restoring the engine it's has broken parts and missing parts. So I am giving it new life. This engine at one time had a motor in it to make the drive wheels go round. I planned on doing that again. Along with additional detail on the engine. Here it is and it's progress. FB_IMG_1504491794029IMG_20170904_130930    The day i picked it up.IMG_20170904_194844   After cleaning it up and putting a coat of paint on  it.IMG_20170906_205142   IMG_20170906_213553 the light that I had made for the tender. IMG_20170906_213440   Here is the new coal bunker with it's new load of coal.IMG_20170906_205136   The ladder and all the other parts for this I have had to make buy hand. I  hope to get it running like it was at one point in it's life.

When finished with this 4-6-2 it will be on display in our store at Henning's Trains in Lansdale PA. as a piece of history that we have saved.

That is really neat!  Who ever buys it will need a bit of room, but I'd think it would be a nice compliment for a large display or collection train room.

I'd guess it won't be for sale  but rather meant to be an iconic piece of nostalgia and identifier for Henning's train store to be enjoyed by customers and visitors to the store.

Pretty cool model, glad you got it before the landfill did. Having the history of it sounds pretty neat as well. I'm also interested in following along with your progress on restoration. I'm sure it will be nicely detailed when you are finished. Good luck with the project and it will be a great item for display in your train store.

The super chuffer would be a neat idea to go along with the motorized wheels, maybe you could con GRJ into making a 'larger' one?

Harry,

Glad you were able to restore this. You mentioned that it was built from wood, cardboard and plastic. What is the boiler shell and the drive wheels made out of?

Luckily, your store has been in business so long, I know you guys can make just about anything that you don't have parts for.

Please say hi to Pop Henning for me.

I have a blue print of 175 but I am not going to make it exactly the same. I don't want to change to much on this engine. The dooms that were on it had to go. They were in rough shape and falling off. It made sense to up date them to something that looked better. It's still an old store display with some updates. The number will be 128 after the store address.
