Hello Legacy gurus - I have a 6-28297 SP GP-9 with early Legacy. It is a single Pullmor motor, uses an R4LC with an ACDR board, and the sound package is listed as RailSounds 5.5

I’m itching to do something with this engine. I can think of two scenarios and questions:

A - if I upgrade to dual can motor trucks, is there a “DCDR” board I need to start looking for? Would Cruise Commander M work?

B - if I want to completely redo this engine, and I harvest the legacy hardware, does the serial output from that legacy R4LC speak the same protocol understood by current generation Legacy “Railsounds Lite” boards?

As always, thanks for helpful pointers.

A: The CC-M will not work with a Legacy R4LC, it only works with TMCC serial data.

B: No, the RS-Lite Legacy boards paired with the RCMC actually had some differences in the serial commands to the sound board.  Many sounds will work, but stuff like the bell and quilling whistle don't work as I recall.

To be honest, if you want to go to a Legacy setup with cruise, you'd be MUCH better off looking for a used Legacy GP9 with can motors.  You can probably transplant the shell if you're in love with the existing road name and paint scheme, but the lighting will change.
