Older Lionel Coaling Station

I was wondering if it is possible to use the older Post War Lionel Coaling Station #497 with Fastrack, or if it is necessary to only use the newer one that are made for the Fastrack track? The older ones seem to have metal tabs that stick up that would interfere with the fastrack? Thanking in advance for any input.
