older ps2 battery question

Replacement BCR 

First Congratulations on your find! If it has a charging port, I think replacing with a new MTH battery is the safest path, but there are others more knowledgeable than me. My recollection is that PS-2 don't scramble on low voltage, but on very rare occasion, BCR might have issues.

I take a $2 supercap (price might vary) and clip the leads from the old dead battery and solder them on.  That's the last time you'll have to worry about a battery in that engine.

Not right now, I actually build these as I remove an old battery and then plug them back into the engine.  I just had a few lined up, so I did a bunch of them at once.

If you don't have the Molex connectors/wire shown, you can also use a JST-PH 2-pin connector and a little wire for the same effect.  That plugs directly into the top board of the 3V PS/2 board set.

The lower group is the 3V supercap replacements I speak of.

I use John's super caps in my PS2's and they work great.

Looks right to me.  Here's a BCR disassembled, it's a 1.5F 5.4V cap and a connector.

Hi gang - just a quick follow-up.  I did end up going with the bcr2.  Based on GRJ's comments,  I did cut the leads off the original batteries to save it for another day. 

Living just north of York,  I called J and W yesterday.   Since I am nearby,  I  got cash, put it in an envelope and headed south.  We did a no contact exchange on the side porch and I installed it this morning.
