I have an MTH premier GP- 38 that was one of the first ps2 engines With a five volt board and this thing just won’t die. It has over 6000 miles on the odometer, it's been dropped on the floor by my kids twice, had a cracked and repaired shell, but otherwise, it’s fine and it keeps on running. It even keeps smoking, in spite of my kids overfilling it regularly with fluid running down the electronics when they were younger. Sure, it’s not as robust as a newer engine, but everything still works on this heavily run, approximately 20 year old engine. The funny thing is that every other subway engine in my collection that had the five volt ps-2 electronics has died and been replaced with a ps-2, 3 volt board or a new ps-3 board. I guess the interior heat in those models prematurely killed the electronics.
Do others have similar MTH or Lionel engines? How old is your oldest, heavily run command control engine?
