OO Lionel-1941 loco and tender differences?

Can anybody describe the differences between the oo lionel locos and tenders? What years have the tender plug? Is it only 1938 that the loco has the chain connector? When was that changed to the new connection style? Do they have any any dates stamped anywhere? Any particular year more desirable or rare?
