Operating Doodlebug in Delaware

Yes, it is ex. PRR. From what I understand, there are three remaining PRR Doodlebugs; this one at W&W, one in Michigan (non-operable), and 4666, which just relocated for Black River& Western to the Allentown and Auburn. I posted photos of it in the last two weekend photo funs. It runs, but needs cosmetic work before we use it for passengers.

At one time I believe that PRR doodlebug engine ran from Trenton across NJ east to shore points.  That had to be in the final years late 60's perhaps.

The car is used almost weekly during their operating season.

How close to York in miles, is whatever one or more one of those that is operating and can be ridden?  (as something to visit then)

The schedule for W&W's ex-PRR 4662 is shown on their website:   www.wwrr.com  

The car makes additional charter trips not shown on the schedule.

The W&W station at Greenbank DE is about 106 miles from York PA according to the directions on the website.

Incidently, the model motorcar shown in the OP's post looks very much like ex PRR 4666 now at the Allentown & Auburn.

Hopefully Allentown & Auburn will use the Doodlebug whereas the Black River did not. Turns out it could always run. It's just no one bothered to fix the seats.

The Wilmington and Western is about 70 miles from the York Fair Grounds. An hour and 45 minutes+

  Auburn Railroad, Railroad Street, Kutztown, PA about the same distance time wise.  Just check google maps.

Are you associated with the Allentown and Auburn? I'm thinking of driving over fathers day weekend..

ex-PRR gas(oil)-electrics #4666-4670 were built by Brill, as their model 660. both the NJ custom brass and Sunset versions were based on that model.

ex-PRR gas(oil)-electrics #4655-4662 were built by Pullman.

They are doing some sort of family picnic type of run on Father's day, so I've asked my wife to get some tickets to make a day of going there, taking the ride (on whatever they have rolling that day) and taking some pictures.  If I do it I'll let you all know about it!

According to the W&W description the dual 1942 Cummins diesels were replaced by the group.  However, there is no information on the new diesel engine(s).  I'd be interested to know what kind of diesel power is in the doodlebug now.

The new engines are also Cummins. Don't know what Model, but they are similar in size to the ones PRR installed. Inline 6 cylinder.

Where is the doodlebug in Michigan?
