It’s my understanding that the only way to connect a z750 or a z1000 brick is through the auxiliary port on the MTH TIU using an adopter cable.

That said; using an adaptor cable, can a z750 MTH power brick be plugged into the auxiliary port of an MTH TIU and then, (using two separate fixed DCS TIU output channels on the same TIU), be connected from the two separate output channels to two separate track ovals – allowing for separate operation of an MTH PS2 engine on one track oval, and separate operation of an MTH PS3 engine on the other track oval? Each oval will have around 40 feet of track. We’ll be testing an engine and a few lighted cars on each of the individual ovals, should that make any difference?

This setup will be temporary and for testing only. The plan is to eventually purchase an MTH z4000 when configuring a future and permanent layout.

As has been evident in other postings, we’re pretty new to MTH, so my question may be a bit illogical. Thank you in advance for any help offered. Lou

You can connect the Z750 to all 3 inputs - Aux. Power and any two TIU channel inputs - and then connect each channel output to a separate loop of track, provided that you have the necessary splitter cables.

However, since this will be aa temporary setup, why not just connect the Z750 to Fixed Input #1 only, and connect the output of Fixed channel #1 to both loops?

In both cases, the only issue is whether or not the Z750 has sufficient power to support both trains simultaneously.

This and a whole lot more is all in the The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Wow, I appreciate your quick response to my question. I do have a few z750 bricks, so it sounds like I can attach them both to two separate TIU channel inputs - and then connect two separate channel outputs to each separate track ovals? This, without any special cable attachments?

Barry, your book, "The DCS O Gauge Companion" is terrific. It does answer all my questions, but it's also great having direct communication using this forum. Best to you, Lou

Yes, you can. If you have a 3rd brick, you can attach it to the TIU's Aux. Power port, as well.

I believe I can use two MTH TIU Barrel Jack Adapter Cables #50-1017 attached to two z750 transformers plugged into two TIU inputs, and and one z750 transformer plugged directly into the Aux. Power port? It would be great if I can use all my existing transformers. Once again Barry, the DCS O Guage Companion is guiding me through, what a few days ago, seemed like an impossible quest. Best, Lou

Thanks David. I'm getting a bit more confident in this stuff. We plan on getting out to see you guys in October. By that time, I should have a better idea of what we're getting into.

On another note, I have to let you know just how impressed I am with your modeling skills. The engines on the Mercer site are fabulous, and I know that that's just the tip of the Iceberg.

Best to you, Lou

Yes, it's actually done from a mirror, so it's a reverse image of me. It's the way I see me most often anyway. It's oversized, 30" square. I teach portrait classes and also self portrait from mirror workshops. So I thought it best to have one available that I did of myself. Just to jump start the workshops. Thanks for the kind words. See you soon, Lou

Holy cow!  Was just going to ask this question!!!!  Was first going to look in the book but rather lazy at the moment.  I just want to make sure i get this correct, if you have a 750brick and and another power source they can all be connected to the TIU?  The reason for me is to gain more power to the tracks and accessories.  Is it safe to say i am correct?  Thanks again!

jjmmagoo,

I'm certainly not the guy to answer this, (being new to all this stuff), but I've been given every indication, via this site, that we can indeed connect more than one transformer, (bricks), to the TIU and things should work fine. I'm in the process of setting up a layout and have yet to purchase a DCS, TIU, and possibly an AIU, so no experimenting yet. Plans are to have something going before the holidays. The "DCS O Gauge Companion", along with Mercer Junction's and Barry's help, has given me the confidence to go forward with a DCS layout. I'm still an HO, PFM sound system modeler, but this MTH stuff is even more exciting. Good luck with all this, Lou

Thanks Big Lou.  Barry's book is great.  I have used on numerous occasions.  I was just searching around and this question came up and I felt like I wrote it not verbatim of course.  Lol. You will love all things DCS.  Don't get me wrong there is a little trial and error.  I am still learning and now that the weather will be changing I will be possibly pursuing expanding.  And with more track comes more lights and with more track and lights I need more engines.  Very addicting this hobby.  I am still intrigued by the new Wifi system that will be coming.  But right now w everything is running great.  So I am hesitant to reinvent the wheel.
