Working on the train room, almost ready to paint. I have a 5 gallon pail of blue. I need an opinion on whether or not I should paint the ceiling blue also. The room is 13 x 24 I'm going with an around-the- wall layout. Any opinions would be appreciated. I normally would paint it white, but in this situation was wondering if blue might be a better choice.

I have a large train room, 30’x20’ painted the walls blue, ceiling white. I think the white ceiling keeps things brighter and colors true. I painted the ceiling in my shop, and the colors in the room look odd. Granted the shop walls are hot wheels yellow, and the ceiling was white. Things looked good, but I thought the yellow would look good on the ceiling too, and whoa, colors of items in the room look very different. Wished I would have left it white. Just my experience.
Many museum quality layouts are under black ceilings. John
If you do paint the ceiling tone it down to just a light blue tint. If you have 2'X4' drop ceiling lighting there are lenses that have clouds on them and they still give a lot of light..
It really depends on what you're trying to create and the space itself. Black ceiling will force the focus towards the layout. Lighter colors will encourage the eye to travel throughout the room. If the space is pressed into several functions beyond the layout, perhaps a lighter color would serve best to that end. If the space is to serve exclusively as a layout room, darker color may work best. All rooms are unique and will require different treatments. Pics of your space would help...
No drop ceilings. Ceiling was painted by previous owners with a very fine sand paint. I really didn't want to pull all the ceilings down And re sheetrock the ceiling or even go over it with new sheetrock. It doesn't look bad it's in great shape. Found some nice track lighting. I never painted a room all 1 color. Always used white on ceilings. I guess I can give it a try. I could always go over it with white if i dont like the result.
If you are painting over sand paint it is always easier to paint it the same color it is...White will also reflect more light.
It's a very very light textured sand paint Gene. You cant even notice it if you dont look hard.
