I want to add crossovers to my new layout.  All of my track is k-line Supersnap/ShadowRail (same height at tubular O).  My first thought was to use 4 RMT O72 switches, but I also like the idea of using the RossPlate #4 switches and avoiding the s curve. Since this will be my largest single track expenditure in my railroad's history, I want to gather thoughts and opinions from all of you before making this decision.

1) What are your thoughts on building a crossover using RMT O72 switches vs RossPlate #4 switches?

2) If you have pictures of these switches in use on your layout, please add them to the discussion.

3) Just to muddy up the decision process... I like the idea of the Ross HiRail #4 Yard Crossovers as an option too, but can I make a good connection to my tubular track?

f I understand you right, you want to do a double-crossover? I use all Ross track and switches and have two crossovers at opposite sides of the layout. I think the K-Line track has a higher profile than Ross, even if you factor in installing cork roadbed under the Ross switches, but with cardstock or other material you should be able to raise the profile to match.

For crossovers -- either single or double -- I HIGHLY recommend #'d turnouts over O-xx turnouts... especially if you plan to run longer locomotive and scale rolling stock.  Now with a double crossover, you also need a "matching" low-angle crossing -- usually 22.5 degrees or less.  So plan for how that may affect your parallel track spacing.  If you have RR-Track layout-planning software (or something similar), it can certainly help out in the planning process.

Best of luck!
