It is with deep sadness that I write this post. Our dear friend Victor Bodek passed away last night due to complications from heart surgery. This post is on behalf of many of his friends and family here in Michigan to let the many more whose lives he has touched also know he has passed away. Victor was an ambassador to our hobby. He was a member of TCA, LOTS, TTOS, LCCA, the Detroit Historical Society, Glancy Trains and the Detroit 3 Railers. Many of these organizations he served as an officer or key volunteer. Victor was more than a train enthusiast, he was a life enthusiast, our hobby was just a means for him to touch many lives. Victor enjoyed people, he encouraged youth into the hobby, he has left us all too soon and he is dearly missed. As April York is quickly upon us, for which Victor was a regular, will not quite be the same. There will be an open seat in Craig's vehicle going to York this time where he used to travel with Dennis, Walt, Bill and Craig to one of the Daddy's of train meets.
To provide some information on Victor's all too quick departure from us, I will try to briefly summarize what had transpired to his heath over the past few weeks. As many know Victor was relatively your and very vibrant so this comes as a shock to many. In February Victor had a heat catherization to install a stent. However, after this procedure doctor's realized that he had a few blockages that needed to be cleared up as well as a leaky valve. Victor had open heart surgery April 2nd for multiple bypass and valve work. Unfortunately the surgeons found a large aneurysm. Victor was with us for a few days after the surgery, but the complications due to the aneurysm was too much for his body to recover from. He passed last night.
I will not try to mention all of his great friends here, but will ask many of you to post some thought or memories below. I ask you to pray for his sisters and brother who are grieving now.
Below I have attached a few photos I received over the past few days of Victor.
Victor, God Bless you and your family.
