The last two years our town has had a Holiday Tree Display where several area businesses install and decorate a tree representing their business. Then throughout the holiday season people come to see them and then vote for their favorite one. Our family has entered each year with naturally a train under our tree. Plus every ornament on the tree was Lionel trains related. Several custom painted balls with the Lionel “L”, Lionel Hallmark ornaments, LCCA buttons, and several pre & post war train parts (wheels, transformer handles, helicopters, bag of lionel coal…..) and a lighted Lionel caboose for a tree topper. A lot of fun to do. We won both years. Last year’s layout was bigger than the first year and this years is twice as big as last year. I’ll have to post some pics of the first two. Last year we had a ‘Christmas Story’ theme with the Lionel Christmas Story set and all the Department 56 Christmas Story buildings and figures. This year we are doing ‘Peanuts’. Should be fun.

Attached is a picture of my son doing a great job of cutting much of the lumber. And a picture after we got the basic layout situated. We have now taken it all apart and will reassemble and decorate it tomorrow. I’ll post finished pics then.

Looking darn good!  Be sure to take photos of the finished product and submit them to me at the magazine for possible use in next year's Dec. issue.  You might even want to document the whole building process (hi-res images) and consider doing a full feature article.  That will help pay for the materials used, etc.  Drop me a line if you're interested.

And thanks much for continuing/advancing the tradition of toy trains and Christmas.

Allan, might have to take you up on that idea.
