I’ve just bought an Overland Hiawatha A, O gauge which is untouched. So it’s 95% made with some small pieces. I understand it’s 36 years old. I am in the UK and the entry on this forum of 03/17 is very useful. I did contact Overland Hobbies and quickly received a reply from Marsh but he was unable to provide a schematic re the extra parts. Some are obvious where they go, others not so.

Can anyone help?

Also the colours are obvious but the width of the stripes is not.

Again can anyone help?

regards

Dennis

Dennis,

I hope you won't take Mr 5441's reply as typical of US 2 rail 0 scalers when assistance is requested, especially from overseas.

I notice when quickly doing a little preliminary research that, as with most locomotives, paint and details change over the years -- so if you will be operating / displaying this with a particular set of passenger cars, you'll need to match the locomotive accordingly.  Do you have such a time frame in mind ?    Do you have a set of decals ?

[ Sarcasm on ] I will have to admit I didn't realize the Class A's were lettered "Hiawahta" .......[ Sarcasm off ]

With best regards, SZ

Dennis,

Brian Reed's Loco Profile 26 has, I believe, a color [ or colour ] drawing of an A as its centerfold.

I seem to recall that a similar drawing appeared in a Model Railroader issue a number of years ago as part of a feature article on the initial Hiawatha -- perhaps it was their 50th anniversary issue in the mid-80's.  I no longer have this issue.

Best regards, SZ

A number of answers:

Steinzeit. Booklet bought. Thank you again for advice.

Daylight. I doubt mine will run, display only. Good that the Lionel runs well. That reminds me I have a Daylight that needs painting.

Bob H. Sorry unable to process number.

Thank you to everyone.
