Hi Guys,
Back in 1988, Pacific limited advertised 36' and 40' Fowler stock cars. Were these actually produced?

Don't believe they were ever produced. They did the 40' double sheathed USRA boxcar, a batch of single sheathed Pennsylvania cars and Great Northern truss rod boxcars. They all show up at O Scale meets and Ebay, from time to time. Don't recall any others.
Oh, just recalled another Pacific Ltd car - the all steel USRA copy boxcar of the 1920's. I have the NYC version, but believe Pacific Ltd did them in versions appropriate to other roads, too (perhaps just NYC subsidiaries).
Pac Ltd also did a couple SP wood cabooses, drop bottom gon, composite boxcars, and several box cars up to the 1932 ARA cars.

Out of curiosity, who was behind Pacific Ltd? Our unsung benefactors who do all the tough work of development and importation should have recognition. And who must endure all the squawking when the models are not correct at the molecular level!

That would be Pat O'Boyle of Davis CA. He passed away suddenly maybe ten years ago. A friend of Pat's was trying to put together a master list of all the cars he had made. The copy of that list that I have is incomplete, but there are 74 different models listed. About every variety of freight car is listed except stock cars and tank cars. He did write me once that those were on his future to-do list.

Thanks Charlie and Gene. I do hope Mr. O'Boyle received at least some appreciation for the fine products he brought to market. I spoke with an importer at the Chicago O scale Meet this March and asked how the business had gone (he was in the process of selling out his remaining inventory). He said he lost money in the venture, and amoung other difficulties, he had to buy expensive liabilty insurance, as some clod might cut himself on one of the models, and sue. A sorry state of affairs in this country.
But, it is important to have appreciation for what importers do, and it is often on their money, without deposits. Let us hope individuals will continue to step forward and take the risk, so we may have future high quality models.
Abject apologies, my memory is gone. Mather, repeat, Mather, repeat...

Yeah- repeat.. Mather... repeat... MATHER!
FWIW, there is a linked page on the Yahoo o scale page that offers a listing of Pac Ltd cars and model numbers. It does not clarify pieces produced; I am suspecting it was not an enormous number of each model.
