I was wondering about the Big Boy packaging. Since I did not purchase one, I would only be speculating about how they were packaged. Can anyone who purchased one share that information. Personally, I have run the gambit on packaging for these locomotives from all the manufactures. Most are real good, but some......

Well, lets just say they are a little thin on packing which leads to possible damages.

How were the Big Boys packaged?

Thanks

Actually, to elaborate on this. I have had several locomotives of various types, have small paint flaws because they were packaged too tightly within their packing. Also, I experienced, several times I think, when trying to relieve the locomotive from it's confines, some rather delicate parts broke off when I did so.

The great thing about Lionel and MTH as well as other manufacturers, is they use allot of metal type features. Like the horns on my AC6000. The railings etc. Because they are in fact made pretty well, they don't break.

That is nice to hear. Glad she was packed real good. These locomotives remind me of delicate clocks sometimes. So many moving parts.

Thanks for responding to my question Marty.

Thanks Stephen. Well, I hardly an expert, but I am not untried as far as this hobby is concerned. Many in here posses phenomenal amounts of information I find not only fascinating, but very interesting.

My layout is very basic right now. Just an oval with a MTH remote and I have 6 diesel locomotives from Lionel and MTH. I also have one modern tank car and 8 modern Lionel Auto Racks. My layout is on the floor (carpet central), but that will change once our basement is redone next year sometime.

I have been in this hobby on and off for years now. I did HO, N, G and O/O-27. I love all trains and scales/gauges, but by far my most favorite is O.

I also have G gauge as well, but that was too big for my basement. (Though I did a commendable job with it).

Thanks for asking. Oh see my layout on carpet central's thread. I think I posted a pic of it their. At least I thought I did.

Pete

Hey Pete, very nice layout….. thanks'.  If I may,and I think you would be aware that your engines may be picking up carpet fibers. I know that the new style of track must help eliminate most but their are fibers you can't see similar to asbestos fibers but not harmful that are being pulled up into the trucks. So a good inspection every so often will help.
