I'm thinking about a repaint project requiring bright finish 15" Lionel or other vendors' passenger cars.  The older Lionel Burlington and Amtrak passenger cars have the finish I want, but:  1) the Burlington has the road name imprinted on the finish; and, 2) the Amtrak cars have the striping along the windows and, number boards are attached.

Has anyone repainted either of these models, or any other bright finish 15" passenger cars and successfully removed imprinted names/numbers and/or press on decals and number boards?  Can you suggest an alternative to these two models?  (I have been away from the hobby for 10+ years and haven't kept up with the high volumes of new product introduced during my absence.)

Carl,

A few years ago I repainted an entire set of Amtrak SuperLiners using Rustoleum Platinum Silver. I followed with two coats of Ultra-High Gloss Clear over decals. Customer was so happy that I did not have time for any photographs. The only draw back is the cost of paint. It's only available in small cans. I hope this helps. You're wanting to copy a very difficult color.

God Bless,

"Pappy," thanks for the reply, first of all.  There are a number of questions I'd like to ask via email, but yours isn't in your profile.  Send me an email, it's in my profile, when it's convenient and I'll send you the questions.

Also, checked the price of the paint you used.  Home Depot price online is $33.96 for a six can case of 8 oz. cans.  Again, thanks for the reply.
