Hi Everybody!  I just picked up a set of 5 MTH 70' Streamlined Passenger Cars in the New York Central road name (20-6516.)  Before putting people on the inside, I was debating whether or not to paint the interior of the coaches and observation car first.  Has anybody ever done this before?  How did they come out?  Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

I've done three sets MTH of cars just like you have. The first two sets I just put the people in without paint, the last set I took my time and painted and was very pleased. If you have the time I would go for it.

I painted the floors red the seats green, and the walls tan(and the toilet silver).

Should have done all three sets.

There have been a couple forum members that posted photos of their painted and customized modern era Amtrak passenger car interiors.  The only 1930-1950 era madison and streamlined interiors that I ever saw (and greatly admired) where those by York Orange Hall tableholder and Canadian Jack Pearce (sp?).  Jack's use of fiber optic and LED lighting along with great detail work (candlelights, table cloths, plates, silverware) is amazing.

Jeff, please post photos if you decide to attempt the project.

Hi again.  Thanks everyone for the ideas!  This is a project that I am definatly going to start this week (once finals are over.)  The only problem is that I cannot get some of the screws at the bottom of the cars to move by hand.  I'll stop by the club sometime after my exam tomorrow and use a power tool to try to get those screws out and hopefully start painting.  Once the painting is comlete, I will post pictures!

Hi Jeffrey,

Your pasenger car project came out very well. I have in the past placed passengers in a set of B&O passenger cars and that made quite a difference in realistic operation.

I recently purchased a NYC Empire State set at York and was going to add the people again. Your idea has me thinking of painting the interior to really make it look realistic.

My wife always thought passenger cars were boring until we placed the people in them. This little project should really make the cars moree interesting.

Congratulations on tackling this project. The results were well worht the effort!
