I am in need of a collector insulating board for a 1946 Lionel 2020 engine. it is different than the 47 and newer version. Would like a new on of course but will take a used one. Sorry, I don't have a parts #.

I am not aware of any difference for the 1946 and the later 1947-49 versions. I checked Olsen's Library, and the part number for both the 1946 version and the later 1947-1949 motors is the same number. Part number is 671-186 Collector Insulator. Jeff Kane (Toy Train Tender) only lists the one number (reproduction part).
Whether it is a 2020 or 671, (which are the same loco but different cab numbers), a majority of the part numbers will be 671-?. Very few part numbers that would start with 2020-?.

There is a difference . The 1946 is part number 671-186X and the 47 up is 671-186 .
They are not interchangeable .

Maybe you can make one from a piece of printed circuit fiber board or other fiber board from electrical parts like old switches or transformers. Radio Shack or electronics supply houses may sell such insulation boards.
