Parts needed for a Lionel Legacy Southern Crescent 4-6-2

Lionel sells that shell as a complete unit with the missing parts already in place. Try to find that engine on ebay or anywhere on the internet so you can see what parts are missing. You should be able to find most of them at Precision Scale Brass or Stevenson Preservation. Some may have to be fabricated.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the boiler is marked as "unavailable" on the Lionel site. And since I already have 95% of a completed boiler, I'm really interested in knowing how some of the few missing items are attached, especially the bell cord.

I have searched many web sites, including Google images to try to find close up photos of the boiler, but either the images are very small or the photos do not show the detail. Even photos on ebay do not show the detail I need.

I'm hoping someone can be of help to me.

Ray, for the bell cord just use some .010" music wire and run your own. The missing parts are brass. Not sure what Lionel uses but a good super glue should work. The Lionel parts are likely cast with tabs or fingers that fit into the holes. PSC or Stevenson parts won't have these tabs so you may want to get some brass wire that fits the holes in the shell and drill a hole in the piece so you can glue or solder the wire to the piece.

Thanks, that what I was going to do, use brass wire/rod for the bell cord.

But I am still not certain how to run it. As shown in my photo, I'm not certain how the cord goes over the Elecsco Feedwater Heater. And if I use the "eyelets", the 2 closest to the sand dome, they are mounted high up on the boiler, which will mean I have to BEND the wire to fit around the sand dome. 

Also, the 2 tall brackets in front of the cab, what are they and how do they work?

Ray, you really want to use music wire. It will stand up to normal handling better. Use .015" which is about 3/4" in O scale. Brass will bend the first time you pick up up wrong. I posted a pic of an MTH Pacific below. You can see the rope is high and only goes through one eyelet back to the cab. The other eyelets in particular those close to the cab may be for pipiing. I add rope pulls to a lot of my engines that lack them. Just take your wire and bend it at a right angle about 1/8" long at the end and put it through the bell arm. After its all in place in the cab and through the eyelets, bend it back at the bell so it can't slip out and cut off the excess.  I put a little bend at the eyelet so the rope looks like its sagging a bit. You want to use a cutter designed for music wire. You will only damage cutters designed for copper wire.

You really need to see some pics of the engine first. Hopefully a forum member will help here. One picture is worth a thousand words.

This engine had a rope pull added along with eyelets.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the MTH engine does not have the Elesco Feedwater Heater, which adds to the issue of where and how the bell cord goes over it, see my photo.

I agree that piano wire is better. 

Hopefully, some members will send photos of the Lionel engine.

You're looking for a specific road-name Pacific?

Ray if you google "Lionel Southern PS4 Pacific", then "Images"  you will get many hits. It appears most of the eyelets accross the top of the boiler and smoke box are for a brass pipe (wire in this case).
