I have some streamlined passenger cars that I want to add detailed interiors. I have looked at Scale City Design, and they appear to have some nice seats, etc that would work for me.

But are there any other suppliers of passenger car interiors that includes coach and pullman seats, rest room accessories, etc.

Thanks,

RAY

You didn't say what cars you want to add interiors to.

I wanted interiors and LED constant lighting in my  Lionel 16" Congressional Cars (I know I lost any collector value!) .  So I bought interiors (molded styrene) of MTH cars.  MTH HAD stock of coach car interiors, and I found an MTH plastic NYC Observation car body w/ interior, new, on e-bay.   The MTH interiors were too wide (or the Lionel  aluminum bodies too narrow) and it took considerable resizing- a cut down the center, sanding then re-joining.

The MTH interiors are still too high- so the passengers do not sit at the right height, but the narrowing worked OK.

I had a lot of fun painting some 60 or so unpainted Chinese seated figures, including a prisoner (and his mother - also a prisoner but blind with a cane) being transported by Marshalls, both in stripes.  Even a few Catholic Schoolgirls and a lady in red or two.  Few notice, but I had a laugh.

I have the 15" K-Line Hiawatha set with the Skytop Lounge observation car. K-Line used generic ivory colored basic seats in the Skytop Lounge. I noticed what Santiago did with his lounge and so I did some research. I found photos of the actual interior. I noticed that there was a semi circular sofa at the very rear of the car. I made that myself from scrap.

Next, I noticed from the photos of the actual car that there were single seats and double seats and that they had arm rests. I found seats that were very close to the ones in the photo from Precision Scale Co. I bought their single seats- 41383 and their double seats- 41384.

In addition to seats, the actual interior had a table on either side of the car. The table is rounded in the front and is composed of several shelves spaced about 8" apart. I have ordered tongue depressors that are an actual 5/8" wide and I will construct the two tables from them.

The real car has table lamps on the tables. Keil Line 48-682 lamps will sit on top of the tables I make.

Finally, the Dell Rapids observation car had two floor standing ash trays for the smokers back in the day. I'll use two Keil Line 48-684 ash trays, one in the rear and one in the front of the car before the sleeping compartments.

I will also make a new floor from 1/16 styrene that I purchased off the net.

In addition to making a semi circular sofa, I primed the seats and I am getting ready to paint these items in Milwaukee maroon. I'll send photos later on.

What you are describing is at least half of the fun of O gauge passenger car interior modeling. The cars are only a representation of the real thing, not scale replicas of them, so you have free reign to invent.

The only thing that I would add, with respect to your comments about passenger size, is that Lionel, MTH and indeed other O gauge interiors (including GGD and Atlas) are actually sub-scale - whether the cars are 21”, 18” or 15” - they are really nearer S scale or 1/63 rather than 1/48.  So choose passenger figures accordingly. The old MTH Railking figures are the right size - they don’t need to undergo surgery to fit. The unpainted figure packs are still available in quantities, and you can find the packs of painted figures too, but at a cost.

P.S. Santiago mentions the Delta Models interiors and they are fine pieces - but designed for true O scale interiors. Those that I have require to be cut down to fit in even scale Lionel or GGD cars. I think that they were designed for various O scale 2rail cars made in brass.
