50/50.....
I have been buying the FT-based passenger train sets that Lionel puts out, I guess kind of collecting them. Plus the Polar and Potter trains. Strange, now that you bring up the question, I haven't run one for a couple of years, my most recent purchases are still in the boxes. Now why is that do you suppose? I'll have to fix that with a run this weekend!
2 rail SP prototype from Roseville to Colfax, CA in the 50's and NCNG narrow gauge.
25% passenger (City of SF, Daylight, Overland, Local). 75% freight.
ncng
90% passenger, 10% freight. Tore down my layout and am redoing it to go around the room to run longer passenger trains. I could not afford big passenger cars as a kid so ran plenty of freight then. The passenger cars were the most common large items and looked good with f3s, 027 freight cars just looked dumb unless you had a turbine. I do like the scale size freight cars, and will filter in a few more sets. I think I am 98% passenger in standard gauge, other than the 1 coal train.
Great question Brian!!....I, like you, have a bunch of passenger trains but probably run 50% passenger and 50% freight....
Alan
Same here Alan, but it depends on my mood. Sometimes I like running 100% passenger trains but at a minimum I run 50%. I'm cutting down from 8 to 6 mainlines to make room for some passenger yard staging tracks to keep more of them on the layout.
1/3 passenger. I like both, but as someone said, freights are more versatile with cars and long consists. My passenger is short - only four cars pulled by steam engine with coal tender, so I can put it on a siding and let the freights go by.
When building this layout I did not have an option for passenger service. I did not have an area big enough to hold a passenger train. So I run 100% freight but on an ocassion I will bring out a passenger set and run it on one of the mainlines for a while. So this probably gives me a ratio of 99% to 1%.............Paul
I love passenger trains, but have many more freight cars. I also like "unit" trains and run all box-car red boxcars, all tank cars, and all hoppers. Iguess my % is about 40% passenger and 60& freight.

10% passenger
I run about 60% passenger on my regular layout and 90% passenger on my tinplate.

Freight trains do seem much more versatile, and I have a lot of fun with those... but I have a thing for passenger trains. We own about 60% passenger consists, and we run those much more often than the freights.
About 80/20 in favor of freight.
