I made the trip to Pat's Trains yesterday, and am glad that I did.  Patrick was really easy and interesting to talk to.  I had my grandson with me, and his eyes were as big as saucers the whole time we were there.  Every train he saw became his "favorite".  Patrick not only talks, he listens to, and I'm sure he's heard all the stories before.but he was patient and listened to all my stuff.

While there, I picked up one of Pat's track-cleaning gondolas.  The off-the-shelf unit, an REA rugged rails, car suited my purpose.  I also bought a couple of other items for my grandson to get him started on the way to a lifetime of trains (at least I hope so).

Pat gave my grandson enough train catalogs to keep him occupied for quite some time.  I was kind of jealous, 'cause Pat put the catalogs into a nice Lionel plastic bag.  Pat also showed me his new liquid smoke, and gave me a sample.  I will be testing it out real soon.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Tried out the track cleaning car when I got home.  Two laps around the track, and the rails were gleaming! I used it dry, with no cleaning fluid.  Seems to work just fine.

If you are any where in the area, stop in at Pat's, you will be pleased.  By the way, he's under the freeway overpass.  (shades of West Side Story)

I did similar yesterday. The little boy that lives behind me likes trains and I gave him my old issues of OGR and Classic trains as well as some duplicate catalogs. The only way to keep the hobby alive is to get children interested in trains again or the hobby will die with us. Today's kids will be more interested in Amtrak, CSX, NS etc the same as out generation wanted the F units and Geeps. Many have no idea what a Steam Locomotive is.

You hit the nail on the head!  Of all the engines and locos on display at Pat's, my grandson, Connor, picked out a Williams GG-! wearing the Amtrak name and RWB colors.  He likes steam, and has seen things on TV but never a real-life edition.  I think I may take him out this summer for a train ride somewhere.

It's good to share the hobby with young ones, and if you can, share some old, unused equipment too.  I have been doing it all my life, with all things.  Locally, I belong to several free-cycle groups, and always find good stuff to offer to other folks.
