Guys, I have an older(3 years) Polar Express set Berkshire locomotive that I sent back to Lionel for other service issues.  While it was there, they upgraded the smoke system with a new resistor and wadding.  Now that I have it back, it seems to me that the lower speed smoke performance is worse.  I really have to have the engine running at a high speed to get smoke.  As soon as I slow it down the smoke stops almost immediately.  Am I just being picky?  I recall in the "old days" (the days of smoke pellets) that high speed was needed for smoke.  Of course, at that time, high speed wasn't a problem for me :-).  Anyone out there with the same or differing PE Berk experience?

Thanks,

Ron

As far as I know, these are not famous for smoke at lower speeds. Mine really needs to run at at least 'half power' (Using a CW-80) in order to smoke well. It also depends a bit on what smoke fluid you are using, as some produce more smoke at lower voltages than others. I find that Mega-Steam works pretty well for my PE Berkshire.
