Just heard that the PBR&N is being dismantled.  Sad end for a layout we are all familiar with.  This larger Sn3 layout set on NW California in the late 1800s was a sight to see and operate.  Builder Paul Scoles passed away early this year (or late last year, I can't remember) and now the layout will be removed and equipment sold.

But typically the layout won't survive for long. The ancestors usually have no desire to retain the layout.

I'm building my last one inside a portable 16' x 20' building that has self-contained heat/AC.  This way, if I depart first (and statistics say I will), my wife can sell the whole kit and caboodle (building, layout, equipment) to another enthusiast and have it moved off the property. Or, she can sell the building at a fair price w/layout to an owner that doesn't want the layout and let the new owner deal with tearing out the layout.

One thing is for certain when that time comes: It won't matter to me.
