Hi again everyone, ever since I first watched the Polar Express movie, I always wondered what type of whistle that Pere Marquette 1225 was using when they recorded it for the movie. I always thought it sounded great, but I could never just quite put my finger on it. So, does anyone know what type of whistle that Pere Marquette 1225 was using when they recorded it for the Polar Express movie? Any and all answers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Wow, really? Man, it sure doesnt sound like it at all to me. It actually sounds like a DRG 5 chime steam whistle to me. But wow! I would never have thought that! Are you sure thats the whistle they used? But thanks for your answer anyway!

The Lionel tenders do, but I'm pretty sure he's asking about the whistle sound they used for the actual movie.

I agree with Matt, but I'm not sure I've ever heard the locomotive's original whistle opened all the way.  Probably sounds different.

Yes the sounds for the movie were recorded from the 1225 but that doesn't mean they didn't alter it to meet there requirements. Movie people like to alter things if they think the sound isn't right for the movie. And yes the sounds in the Lionel 1225 are the sounds recorded of the Pere Marquette 1225 at the Steam Railroad Institute in Owosso Michigan.

I attribute that line to a "know-it-all" kid who obviously doesn't "know-it-all!"

Dave we ran "Guest" whistles several times at at our events. They were always installed along with 1225's own whistle. We would use them both (one at a time) during the event. And yes we did have the 611's whistle during several events in the past 6 years.

Rusty the story I posted on the Baldwin versus Lima is true.
