Got this a few months ago.  Love it.  I knew of the indentation of the coal and was wondering how to fill it in.  It doesn't bother a whole lot, but wanted to know it I can.  The problem is the paint.  I started to wipe some dust off and as you can see a white strip in the middle on both sides.  Should I just leave it or try to touch it up.  I'm new to this.  I've just been buying my collection and track over the years.  Layout will come later.  6-11146

These locomotives were painted with white stripes. Looks like someone painted black over yours. It's entirely up to you whether to have the stripes or not. In her early excursion days, the real 1225 had white stripes. Later, the SRI decided to paint her without them.

I don't know what Lionel uses for coal and how you go about getting some. Hopefully someone else can help in that department!

In a competitor's O Gauge magazine, there was an article on refurbishing a 682 turbine with the white stripe. They used a Tamiya paint applicator in gloss white, and dabbed the white on, instead of painting it on. They then took a piece of copy paper and dabbed the white strip to give the white some texture. If it were me I would practice first on some scrap items to get the knack of it.

If it's painted over and just wiping the dust took some of the paint off, what I would do is take and wipe it with your finger tip in a soft rag with 91% rubbing alcohol. It should remove the black paint leaving the original white exposed. Weaver sells touch up pens in Loco Black color that will touch it up if you want it black.

As to the coal load just get some coal that matches closely in size and glue it in with some white glue. I have a small tub that I bought off the internet years ago that is still supplying me with coal loads.
