I chased the 1225 from Owosso to Ashley for her "Polar Express" trip.
Here is the 1st of many shots I took today. This by far is my favorite.

Yep, that's a classic one.
Great shots! The 4th one down is my favorite.
Note the Classification flags. This Polar Express run is an extra.
great shots! Thanks.
Awesome pictures! I tried to make that run, but couldn't make my schedule work.

You missed a good trip.
Truth be told I didn't get as much video or photos as I had hoped. I took a wrong turn after the 2nd cross I came too, as my GPS sent me the long way to my next stop! After Carland I had a state boy following me so I had to watch my speed to catch her on M57. I might try again next weekend depending on how busy the family is.
Does the crew of 1225 still have the right to use the "Polar Express" name? I know that was part of the deal for the movie, when the production used 1225 for the basis of the movie digital berk.
If so, I wonder why they didn't use temporary Polar Express lettering for these trips.
Great shots, I haven't seen a Van Sweringen berk running in many years...

No, not any longer unless the SRI wants to pay royalties to the movie company (Disney?). In fact, you will not find a single railroad in the US or Canada, short line or otherwise, that uses the "Polar Express" name, as a result of the hefty licensing fee.

Yes, but the "free grace period" is long expired.

Jim,
Thank you for the excellent photos of a great locomotive!!
Great photos! The Berk is probably one of my favorite engines ever.
The last photo you posted is also a really good one - kind of like the movie poster angle!

It's not Disney but Warner Brothers.
Sad when the corporations use a piece of equipment and forget where the hard work and preservation originated.
They should give the 1225 free reign on the Polar Express name...
Now the name is the North Pole Express... and yes it is sold out this year!

I don't go to the default, "Corportate meanie" mode at moments like this, but I am left wondering why SRI didn't negotiate the permanent use of the name in lieu of some of the money up front, but only for the timeframe 1225 is running. Seems awfully short sided when they must have known how big the use of the name would have been.

Maybe THAT is part of the reason that SRI had a COMPLETE management & personnel "changeover" after the 2009 Train Festival event.
