8310 starter set engine

So I have this.  The cab number is 8310 and best as I can find it came from a starter set in 1973.  It has a 2 position E-unit, no smoke unit, and didn't even have a headlight (I added a bulb.)  I tuned it up and now it's a fine runner, but I have no use for a 2-4-0 in my scheme.  Now it appears to me that this is based on the 1615 "Baby B6".  Does anyone know if I could just swap out the pilot and front coupler from a 1615 and turn this into a shifter?  At least then I could have some use for it.

Although the 8310 may be look similar to the 1615, the parts do not look to be interchangeable. The 1615 had crosshead guides in the steamchest assembly, main rods with crossheads on them, and slots in the rear wheels for the eccentric crank- all missing on the 8310. The steamchest may not be a drop in replacement, and you would need to get the coupler bracket to mount the coupler. Here is a parts diagram of the 1615. The Train Tender has the steamchest and bracket. If you want a shifter, the easiest way would be to just remove the pilot wheel set.
