For those that may not know, Pinterest is a free website and app that allows you to quickly capture and organize images from the web (or your own pictures).  I use it a lot to collect ideas for my layout or modeling projects.  When I am surfing the web, if I find a picture I like, I just click the "Pin it" button on my toolbar and it will display all the pictures on the page.  I select the picture and then pick which of my "boards" (think bulletin boards) to save it on, and, voila, the picture is added.  When you are viewing the board, you can click on the picture to link back to the original site.

You can also search Pinterest for topics and "follow" other people's boards, and even pin their pictures to your boards.  Pinterest use is about 98% women --  they use for their fashion, beauty and decorating ideas.  But it works well for any hobby.

Here are a few links to some of my boards:

1.  Hiawatha  I created this one when I started collecting Hiawatha passenger trains.   It helped me to compare the offerings from different manufacturers, as well as prototype photos.

2.  Train Stations  I used this one to collect ideas when I did a kitbash of 3 MTH Bank buildings into a grand station.  Some of the pictures are from OGR Forum members.

3.  Track and Benchwork ideas

I can't take credit, its just a funny picture I found on a website that summed up what each of the "Social Media" sites was for.....

Twitter: You sign up to receive "tweets" from people you choose to "follow".  Such as Lee Willis could be followed if he were on, and he may tweet things like "Looking at new Corgi Bus for SuperStreets Conversion!"

Facebook:  Its basically a bulletin board on a wall.  We each get one and can post pics and thoughts to it and share funny stuff on it.  And you can walk around viewing each others boards.

Foursquare:  A site that allows you and your friends to "Check In" at places so you know where your friends like to go and I think you can write reviews.  Such as "Lee Willis just checked in at Charles Ro Supply".

Instagram: Kinda like Twitter except with pics.  You could follow SIRT and he may send out a pic of something awesome that makes you feel wholly inadequate in your weathering skills.

Youtube:  That site we all know where anyone can post any type of video. Someone will come across yet another video of that German layout Wonderland and post it thinking they found the motherland!

LinkedIn:  Its kinda like Facebook for professionals.  You list your skills, jobs, and such and link with other people in a vain attempt to "network" in business.

Pinterest:  Its a site where people post ideas and "how to" type articles to inspire you to do things and even instruct you on how to do it.
