I am planning a trip to Pittsburgh on June 19-21. Are there any layouts that are open to the public? I have visited Carnegie Science Center but was wondering if there are any other ones. Thanks.

Don't think so but maybe one of the forum members may invite you to see theirs.
Don't know of any other public displays this time of year, but you may want to take a trip up to Mercer Junction (about an hour North of Pittsburgh). Dave's store layout is awesome, and the store is a great place to visit as well.

This is a good suggestion. Think the layout is 20 by 12 oval with only one section of track raised about 1/2 inch; exceptionally detailed. Just shows you what can be done on a simple oval.
Brian, you may want to review copies of the L.O.T.S. magazine published last year because the 2014 Annual Convention was held in Pittsburgh. You may get some good ideas from the tours offered and from the pictures of convention related activities.
I thought the Science center had a huge o scale layout open to the public near Pittsburgh?http://www.carnegiesciencecenter.org

Rockstar1989 the Carnegie science center layout has already been viewed by Brian Sheffield according to his posting of the question. Brian or anyone else for that matter that would like to view my layout is more than welcome to stop by and take A look. I have the lower level framework and chip board down with most of the roadbed tacked down and some of the track screwed down. I have 1 section of the upper level done with most of the drop ceiling tile hillside glued in place and some trestles on wooden blocks to figure where to place the 2 other upper levels. I know it is not anywhere near completed but when I get A camera soon I am going to start posting my progress on the OGR forum for everyone to see. I live 3 doors away from the Monroeville / Murrysville border line off Rt. 22 in Monroeville Pa. My E-Mail is on my home page just drop me A message and I will give you my phone number and we can set something up or I could take you around to some of the LHS that have layouts in them. I am disabled and I cant work so I am available most of the day for going out and messing around. Take care and hope to hear from you or anyone else. Choo Choo Kenny

I just wanted to reiterate what others said, if you can possibly get away from the Burgh, take the time to zip up I-79 to Dave's Mercer Junction. Great layout, great store, great guy!
Hi Brian,
My layout is being worked on. If I am in town you could drive out to Murrysville to see what I am doing. I have a little track work to do to make running a possibility.
You are welcome for a visit and a glass of wine.
