Though not an actual poll, but more of a roll call, (with the anticipation of the release of the 2019 Lionel catalog and me hoping for some respect for NC&StL, but expecting none,) I wonder how many of us are out there.

Please comment is you have interest in NC&StL and post pics of any NC&StL related railroad items that you own.

I know that Atlas has plans to produce the NC&StL Baldwin VO1000, which I was surprised to see and have ordered.

My guess would be less than 10 OGRRF members with any significant interest in NC&StL. I am happy to be proven wrong.

Steam era, yes.

I have requested a NC&StL 4-8-4 Dixie over the years, but no luck. Not surprising, but so many other things of a far more "oddball" nature have been offered and built that it got really annoying. H**l, there's even one preserved in Nashville, for Pete's sake - though in its fairly uglied-up, de-streamstyled form. And the NdeM ran essential copies.

Still. I'm afraid that the Lionel 4-8-2 is as close as we are ever going to come to any pre-L&N-Dixie Line steam. I do applaud Lionel for offering the 4-8-2. though. If I had less stuff, I'd get one.

As a cheat, the NC leased some Gulf, Mobile & Ohio USRA Mikes in the early 50's, so you could run come of those....

That's a thought. Did Lionel make a GM&O USRA Mikado, preferably Legacy?

I was fortunate to find an Atlas Steam Era Classic ACF 70 Ton Covered Hopper in NC&StL made exclusively for Hobby Station (in Kentucky, I believe). It is very nice and seems die-cast.

I'm fond of the NC&StL, because it was my Dad's home town railroad (Camden, Tennessee), but I have a Santa Fe layout.  As a retired railroader, I have a lot of respect for the pre-1957 NC&StL.  It was a well-run and well-operated railroad.

I think that it was a stroke of genius that they purchased steam generators in all F3B and F7B units, thus eliminating the need for a separate group of passenger engines.

I would love one too. Looking over my inventory, I have six pieces. 2 Lionel, 2 Atlas, and 2 Weaver.20181204_13260420161229_21181920180617_16245220170927_164733

Tom:

I’ve got the same Lionel NC&StL boxcar as the one in your top picture - the only NC&StL piece of rolling stock in my collection, unfortunately.

I always have a chuckle when I see the box for this car.  The end flap refers to it as”North Carolina & St. Louis”.

And; to respond to the OP’s thread question; heck yeah I’d be interested in NC&StL stuff.  I live within 25 minutes of the former NC&StL line between Chattanooga and Atlanta and enjoy watching trains from the old station platform in Kennesaw from time to time.

There have been Light USRA 2-8-2's, of course, as well as GM&O steam offered. I do not recall if the Lionel GM&O/USRA Mike graph lines crossed. I have lettered a couple for the GM&O. K-Line TMCC/Lionel Light USRA's are good, and decals can be found, so you might try that. Lionel Legacy/GM&O, I don't think so. MTH PS2/3, yes.

eBay might give you some insight as to what's out there relative to this.

I have both Lionel box cars as well.  I ordered the Atlas VO-1000 and I would like to see a model of the 576.  I am interested in the NC&Stl since it used to serve the nearby towns of Huntsville, Alabama, Fayetteville, Tennessee, and Capshaw, Alabama.  The railroad used steam-powered ferries to transfer trains at the end of the Huntsville line across the Tennessee river to Guntersville, Alabama, and points south.

I just talked with the owner of Hobby Station in Elizabethtown, KY. He has quite a few Atlas Trainman NC&StL Boxcars available. As far as I know he has two different road numbers.

I purchased NC&StL covered hopper road number 49141 (I already had road number 49144). He has very few NC&StL ACF 70 Ton Covered Hopper Cars left. These were the second run Atlas cars specially for Hobby Station as NC&StL.

He doesn't know if he has any NC&StL bulkhead flat cars, but will check his warehouse. These were the first run Atlas cars specially for Hobby Station as NC&StL, so most have reached their end user.

I hope I have not violated any forum rules in sharing this information with those of us interested in NC&StL equipment.
