I was searching the web for a portable, flexible, but reasonably powerful vacuum. The search was triggered by stuff down in my turntable cavity, and small grit on the floor under the layout. I took delivery today on what I found, and am delighted. The Metrovac Datavac Pro, model MDV-1, is solidly built, made in the U.S.A., and comes with a variety of "micro tools" that can be attached to get in small places, including with a flexible microattachment hose. Attach this stuff on one end, and it sucks. On the other end, it's a blower. The main body is 16" long. Longer hoses, and other attachments, are available. I sound like I work for the company, but have no involvement with it. I just think it's the perfect tool that I've been looking for, for quite a while. Did I say it's made in New Jersey? Yea!

$70 at Amazon is a bit pricey.
I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond, using one of their 20% off certificates (which I could use because I ordered it at the store). Total price, including shipping (which I think was free) and sales tax was $60.89. I'm so happy to find something made in the U.S.A. that I personally think it's worth it.
Thats a bargain.I use a battery powered hand held Dyson for around my layout it was $300 bucks I just didn't want to fumble with the cord.Whenever I do scenery, electrical, track work, etc, etc, I go over the area with the vac.when I am done.My Legacy engines DO NOT like debris on the track.Bob-I hope Joe is doing well.Nick
Bob,
Congratulations on finding what most of us need from time to time. Here I am searching for one while my wife is looking for one to use around the house. Who knows, maybe we'll come home with two.
Our IT guy at work has one of these. The vacuum feels as strong as a full size vac and much easier to tote around. Very impressive item.

I have the same one and really like it. It is a screamer though.
That thing looks like it really sucks!
