Hi all,

with the doldrums of winter upon us in northern NH (cold with no snow) the focus has shifted back to trains again. My son got his new old stock Berkshire 8215 for Christmas and I got the sound board working. Turns out the brushes need to be clean and dry. No commutator fluid.

Well I moved onto my next project I picked up a fairly weathered 624 for my freight yard switching duties to do a whistle relay conversion on. It was a little worn from a couple trips to the floor with typical bent handrails but the radio antenna is intact and the railings are bent but not too bad otherwise.

Mechanically the thing was a mess though. It is electrically solid but mechanically it was frozen solid. All the gerease had turned into glue and it just would not run. The motor ran fine with the truck removed and the thrust bearing is healthy but the axle grease was solid so it took a bunch of work with some gun de-greaser to liquify the old grease to get it out then re-grease with some nice synthetic.

The problem is in my excitement I forgot to look how the power wire from the rear coupler was routed around the truck. Does anyone have a good picture of how it is suppose to go? I have it in the brass clip on the right side but just leading it to the front of the truck and up in front of the motor well seems like it can rub on the wheel. There doesn’t seem to be a good way to get it up inside the motor well either.

Does anybody have a good picture of the routing?

thanks all! I’ll put up some pictures of my eBay find tomorrow.
