Does anyone have a list of what paperwork went into each postwar set box? I know we have the Greenberg books etc.,but is there a good source of exactly what was in each box?

There is a forum member that goes by jschmid and his name is John Schmid. You can look up his email and contact him or go through his website, below for more info.
He has published several books with information regarding Lionel postwar sets and Lionel paper.
His publishing company is called "Project Roar Publishing"
As for your original question didn't Lionel include a booklet with operating, installing and lubricating in set boxes in the 40's and 50's. Then in the late 50's thru the 60's they included instruction sheets in the set boxes.
The sheets would be for engines, operating cars, accessories and the transformer. Also included would be a list of authorized Lionel dealers.
Trainchief,
Per Yardmaster, I published all the paperwork that went in the promotional outfits during the 1960s in my Authoritative Guide to Lionel's Promotional Outfit book. We have the similar information for Catalog outfits for the 60's, yet to be published. As for '59 and earlier, we have a little of that info, but not all. Is there a particular outfit you were interested in? Otherwise, I'd try Greenberg's books.
Good luck,
John Schmid

The Authoritative Guide to Lionel's Promotional Outfits is a fantanstic book.
