Hi everyone, I thought that since the "post your pictures of X here," threads were quite common I decided to try to start a museum thread. I'll try to get some of mine up here soon.

I know it isn't a train, but the Greyhound bus is really neat looking to me

My last visit to the Railroad Museum of Pa, circa 2007. Hope to make a return trip this summer/fall.
National Capital Trolley Museum, Wheaton, MD.
Gaithersburg Community Museum, Gaithersburg MD.
Railroaders Memorial Museum, Altoona, PA.
Walkersville Southern Railroad and Museum (no museum photos...guess I've never taken any). Walkersville, MD.
B&O Museum, Baltimore, MD.
National Museum of American History, Washington DC.
New Oxford Pa train station museum. Stopped here for a 5 minute photo of the station and rolling stock on the way home from York last October. Ran into a guy that helped maintain the station but took time from his lawn mowing to show me and another couple the incredibly well done museum and collection inside. He mentioned an HO layout in the baggage car. There was a G gauge layout in the station and tons of artifacts. It is open occasionally but don't know the details. They are trying to buy the station/land from CSX. Very well done, super nice guy and very interesting to talk to. My 5 minute stop that evening turned into well over an hour and didn't leave until well after dark. It is right along Rt. 30 in New Oxford Pa, not far from York.
When the museums, (NC Trans. Museum, RR Museum of Pa, Potomac Eagle, and more) came to me - 100th Anniversary of Washington DC Union Station. October 2008.
Of course, plenty more but no photos.
RR Museum of Long Island.
Mt. Washington Cog (nice museum in the station and at the top of the mountain).
Chesapeake Beach RR Museum
Brunswick RR Museum.

I've been to most of the major RR museums in the US (and also a few in other countries) but I have very few photos of static displays save on my photobucket.
Here are a few random ones from various places that I have saved online:
Same loco, several years before:
The Cumbres & toltec headquartered in Chama NM is a tourist RR but the yard is a fantastic museum of Colorado narrow gauge RRing. The trip is 64 miles and crosses the border between Colorado and NM 11 times while climbing over cumbres pass to Antonito in Colorado.

The top three pics are from the National Railway Museum in Adelaide South Australia
The bottom 4 pics are of old relics at the Danbury RR Museum CT.

My cousin was just out there and really enjoyed it.

A pal of mine used to go volunteer at Chama each year and he always told me I needed to get out there.
I finally did, with my wife, on our cross-country sightseeing road trip in September of 2012. We rode the Chama-Osier and return trip so we could get back on the road. It's an amazing ride. Chama is mind-blowing. If you put your back to the state highway, and get past the parking lot, it's as close as you'll ever get to truly going back in time.
Ironically, we rode behind 488 going up and 484 coming back. These two engines were highlighted in a PBS show when I was a kid about the RR (yes, I remember the numbers, beats me why I remember that after over 30 years) and I always wanted to see each, based on that. I couldn't believe they were the ones we rode behind!
love that side mounted "dog house"
Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far!!!
The Rails West Museum is in Council Bluffs, IA, housed in the former Rock Island Passenger Station. They have an interesting collection, including a very modern streamlined Union Pacific RPO. Inside the depot is a fantastic HO layout as well as artifacts and memorabilia.

The Durham Museum in Omaha, NE is not strictly railroad, but being housed in the former Union Station, it has a massive RR presence.

How about a museum that preserves and operates 1/3rd scale equipment from 1915.
The University of California Engineering Department, "Cal Poly", owns and operates Swanton Pacific Historical Railroad Society.
The railroad is located on the beautiful 3200-acre Swanton Pacific Ranch in Santa Cruz County. The rolling stock consists of three one-third scale Pacific-type steam locomotives (they are beautiful!) built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and a diesel switcher.
I had the pleasure of being invited to an open house in 2012. Had a great time and plan on doing it again next year.

Here's a little tribute to IRM's 1630 I put together seven years ago using video shot in 1996:

Great thread and opportunity to spend lots of time looking at some really neat trains. Here are a couple of pics from my visit to St. Louis museum long ago. I did not have a good camera at the time. There were so many better candidates for photos.
