Hello All, Maybe someone can help me. Bought this #52 car a few years ago as junk, put new brushes , bearing, and field assy. in. I like to repair my own post war lionel. I buy as need repair and they now run like new, This car is giving me fits, will run now and then. Then won't do anything. Sounds like armature wants to move but won't. I pick up the car on the track then runs. Shut it off just sits won't run. Any Ideas Thank You Mark

Make sure the wheels and roller pickups are clean. Clean with Naphtha if needed.
Also make sure the reversing sliding plate connected to the bumpers is making good electrical contact with the contact plate assembly.

TrainLarry or anyone by chance would the bearing go in the brushplate? This I will try, Also noticed that their is a plastic plug on the bottom of the frame that is loose. Does any one have a 52 firecar and would they look at that. Also noticed that the bearing does not sit right moves around. Any help would be great.

The lamp socket is not touching a screw when you put it down and shorting out?
Nope, It'll run now if u push it, (didnt run at all prior) But if u shut pwr off won't move, the bearing is now on top, The bearing by the service manual I have shows the bearing on bottom, but won't sit right. The only other thing is maybe the brush springs need replacing they look about the same when brushes are in place, brushes are new. when it runs then shut off then turn pwr on U hear a clutter nose that the armature wants to move.
