I recently purchased a collection of Lionel postwar catalogs from a former employee of Lionel who worked for them back in the early 50s. The collection includes every year from 1941 to 1969. All the catalogs are original and in mint condition and most years have several per year ( 2 to 10) including the consumer and merchant catalogs. I read about the 1945 brochure being very rare. I have a brochure from 1945 but mine is not the Christmas edition. The one I have has boy on the front cover with his thumb in the air saying "Hi, Fellows! I cannot find any information about this brochure. Is this one as rare as the 1945 Christmas brochure? This collection also included a large Lionel trains for spring catalog in mint condition. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello Mr. Dwayne,
First of all.....
I'm sorry, but I can't help you with your question about the 1945 Christmas brochure.
Instead, I'm wondering if you are interested in selling any of your less than "Mint" condition duplicates. I've been working on a web-site, www.phrankenstign.com (Phrankenstign's Unauthorized Train Catalog & Flyer Gallery), where I'm attempting to picture all of the catalogs and flyers Lionel (and other companies) published over the years. To date, I've got at least one catalog from Lionel from 1959. I wasn't really looking to go any earlier, because I'd heard they were too expensive. (I'm not a rich guy, and I'm not in a position to pay "collector's" prices.) Instead, I was hoping to slowly fill the gaps on the web-site over time. About a month ago, someone asked me if I'd considered posting pics of catalogs printed before 1959. He told me prices weren't that high for postwar ones from 1945. I looked on ebay, but most were expensive. I must say, I'm not looking for "Mint" condition. "Good" condition is good enough for being able to post pics on-line---as long as there are no missing pieces, markings, or tattered edges.
If you aren't interested in selling any of your catalogs (or flyers if you have any), then would you consider scanning them to contribute to my web-site? If so, the sizes I would need front and back pics sized 1000pixels x 774pixels for landscape and 774pixels x1000pixels for portrait. If the covers wraparound, then a picture of the spine about 50pixels wide would help me stitch together the front & back pics without much picture loss.
Please let me know what you think.

You probably should contact Bob Osterhoff. He is the Lionel paper man. He has web site at trainpaper.com Email at bob@trainpaper.com
He sells a lot of DVDs with pics of the contents of catalogs. He doesn't really sell any actual catalogs nor flyers.

I believe David Johnston was replying to the O.P. It's good advice. Mr. Osterhoff will know the answer to the 1945 Catalog question, if anyone will.
You might also try asking Todd Wagner who's a member of this forum.

Hi Dwayne,
I believe you may be looking at page 3 of the Lionel Plans and Blueprints book. I have attached it below.

Hi John,
Yes........This is what I have. I do not see any page numbers on mine. Does this mean I am missing the front cover? My book is about 14 pages long with trains and accessories on the last 6 pages. Is this the book you are talking about?
Thanks for your help.
Dwayne
Hi Dwayne,
Yes. It is 20 pages including the 4-page cover you are missing. Primarily black/white with blue throughout. Some yellow on the back cover. Here is the front cover:
I hope this helps!

Thank you.....I appreciate it. I was not aware I was missing the front cover.

You are welcome Dwayne.
Take care,
John
You have acquired a very nice collection. Yes, while the 1945 Christmas flyer is rare (if original, since most are reproduced), your mint 1946 large Spring dealer catalog (if that is what you have) is even rarer than the 1945. Enjoy and appreciate some of the finest catalogs Lionel has produced!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your help and posting an image ....Yes, this is the catalog I have...... The big Lionel Spring 1946 dealer catalog. My catalog is folded in half maybe because of the large size but other than that is in mint condition. Do have a guesstimate on the value? I really don't plan on selling but might be good to know. I am having a blast going through these wonderful catalogs. You really get a since of the wonder of Lionel back in day by looking at these beautiful catalogs.
Thanks again,
Dwayne
