On the early F3's with horizontal motors, the body shells were mounted with 3 screws (2 in the rear, one in the front).  Later F3's with vertical motors had body shells that retained the front screw mounting but had a metal clip on the rear that gripped the frame.

The question is, will a later body shell with clips fit on an earlier horizontal motor frame?

Thanks.

However, you may have to remove the horn, depending how it is mounted. On mine, the horn is mounted over the gearbox of the rear motor, with the horn bracket being attached at the rear of the frame. Although the later shell looks like it should fit, it doesn't. When you lift the front of the shell to get the rear hooks to engage, that kicks the bottom rear of the shell forward, which causes it to ride up onto the horn bracket. Hopefully that makes sense. I don't have the engine here, and I can't find a picture of a chassis using that same horn mounting. It is a Santa Fe 2333, but from what year I don't know.

You may have to slightly and gently bend the clips on the rear of the shell to fit on the 2333/2343 type chassis, as they are slightly wider in that area. I've got a set of modern F3 shells on a postwar 2343 chassis. I just had to slightly bend the clips and it fit fine.

On a side note the 2343P does not have a horn. It was non functional when I purchased the locomotive and I run it with a Railsounds B unit. I removed all the horn components from the 2343P. With the horn in place the shell may not fit, but you could just move the horn to the dummy unit.
