Folks,
I am planning on powder coating a PW steamer but before I do I was wondering if anyone happens to know what the melting point of the diecast? I want to be sure there is no chance of deforming the shell in the oven.
I seem to remember an old thread where someone did provide the melting point of it but I could not find the thread.

commercial powder coat needs a surface temp of about 400 F to set up. Zinc castings start to melt around 270 F i believe. So as you can imagine, not the best idea.
There was a previous thread on powder coating post war steam locos. It had a lot of good data in it. It would be worth the effort to find it.
I had a 2037 powder coated; no problems a'tall

Yes indeed; it's one of my most used engines, and gets knocked around like a kid owned it. The powder coat has been very durable--going on 8+ years now. It's a bit thicker than the original paint, but nowhere near as bad as those dipped monstrosities they sell as starter set engines.
