I run MTH DCS.  For my single loop under the tree, I'm looking for a new power source.  Max load will be two Premier diesels or one steamer pulling no more than 5 passenger cars.  Candidates include:

  • Lionel 180 watt Powerhouse, 10 amp  (Don't have one)
  • MTH Z-1000 Brick, 5.5 amp (Have one)
  • MTH Z-750 Brick, amperage unknown (Son has one)
  • MTH Z-500 Brick, amperage unknown (Don't have one, but want it primarily for auxiliary power for TIU on main layout)

I think I'll be fine with the Z-1000.  Might look for a Lionel 180 on auction sites for use next year to handle a couple of trains.  Questions for you folks - what are the max amp ratings on the Z-500 and Z-750?

Thank you.

i agree your Z-1000 should power your loop without a problem. i have run a premiere j1-E Hudson and 7 Scale lighted passenger cars on a 6 foot by 10 foot 54 inch Curved oval with a Z-1000 connected to one channel of my Tiu
