Well, the other day my K-line power supply gave up and died.  It has been acting flaky for awhile now, and the whistle function never worked right (I bought it used).  So I took down the O and put up the HO and Z till I get a new power supply, at which time the O will be put back up.

Every night I ran the O gauge layout while holding my 11 month old, and she would lay down on me and fall asleep.  When I showed her the HO layout, she yelled, gave me a scowl, and slapped me-guess she likes the big trains!  My 5 year old likes the HO better, because it has roads already on it for his matchbox cars, though he does miss the barrel loader!  My 3 year old girl really likes the Z scale-it is a cute baby train .  My wife, who has always been a fan of HO realized after seeing the HO layout why I like O and now feels like HO is too small.

So, I guess I will be putting a new power supply in the budget.

I'm sorry to hear that you are currently deprived of your O-gauge trains. (And that your children are too! )

Hopefully you'll be able to get a new transformer soon, and the balance of the universe will be restored.

I don't know how extensive your layout is, what make, or how many trains you run, but you might wish to consider getting a used CW-80 transformer. If 80W is enough to run your trains and accessories, then apart from the very early ones, this is an ideal little transformer for most purposes. They often appear for sale here at bargain prices, sometimes even free to a good home.

Nicole's recommendation is quite reasonable, IMHO.  Modern trains require very little juice to run, unless perhaps you have a string of light-bulb illuminated passenger cars.  For example, I was astounded to see my grandson's Lionel two-motor GP-38 set #6-30153 run perfectly well by an old Marx 30-watt transformer.

I'm certainly not suggesting that you seek out a Marx 30-watt transformer, just that it isn't necessary to be like Tim the Tool Man, and go for all the power you can.

Well, I finally got to my "lhs"-about an hour away to the one I go to, and they had a bunch of Lionel 40 watt transformers for 19.99! So I picked one up and am now up and running again .  I would have liked the 80 watt, but 50 bucks(I know it is a great deal) was out of my budget especially because I wanted to buy an accessory track so I could try out a barrel car I bought two months ago.

The barrel car is a neat accessory, but I was disappointed that you could not unload it directly into the barrel loader.  Oh well.

If you mean the 3562 Operating Barrel car loading into the #362 barrel loader, you can do that with a 3562-48 barrel loader extension clip. They typically cost somewhere between $3 to $5 bucs.
