Powering up TMCC and Legacy Engines

My TMCC and Legacy locos sit on a siding powered by a ZW-L. The ZW-L also powers a main line with the same throttle. I have a switch to keep the power off on the siding. Is there a risk of damage to the locos by turning power on to the siding when the transformer is already up at 18V powering trains on the main? Basically is it ok to hit the engines with 18 volts as opposed to building up gradually with the throttle?

Its perfectly fine.Anyone that powers their layout with Lionels bricks (myself included) does it all the time.

Provided that the Legacy/TMCC base is powered and active first, then this is fine. When using power bricks or TPC/Powermasters to supply the track power, full voltage is applied normally.

Do it all the time to locos on the sidings - though I do apply power gradually when that's

reasonable.
